Request a deferral of acceptance

An offer of admission to King’s is made for a specific academic start term. If you are unable to attend, you may be eligible to defer your acceptance to a future term. If you plan on taking any secondary or post-secondary courses during your requested deferral period, you cannot defer your admission.  You must reapply to a future term and provide the necessary transcripts.

If you would like to request a deferral, you must complete the following steps in your Application Status Portal after you receive an offer of admission.

  1. Complete and submit your Admission Offer Reply Form.
  2. Pay your non-refundable admission (enrolment) deposit.
  3. Once submitted, the deferral request form will be available in your portal.
  4. When your deferral has been submitted and reviewed, you will receive an email notification informing you of the decision.

Deferrals are conditional until any outstanding official final high school grades or post-secondary transcripts are received and assessed. For more information on submitting final transcripts, please visit Step 5 in Next Steps.

If your deferral request is approved, please drop all King’s/Dalhousie courses in which you are currently registered in. Non-attendance in registered courses does not constitute a withdrawal. Failure to officially withdraw from your classes will cause fees and interest to accrue on your account.

If your deferral is approved, you will be required to re-register for courses once registration opens for your deferred admit term. For any questions, please reach out to admissions@ukings.ca.

Request a deferral of residence

If you have received a housing offer from King’s Residence, you may be eligible to defer your space to a future term. Request a deferral by emailing the Residence Office at residence@ukings.ca, and briefly outlining the reason you are requesting a deferral. A member of the Residence team will be in touch to inform you of a decision.
