Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $65
  • Official high school transcript (this should either be sent directly from the school or arrive in a sealed envelope from the high school within the student’s application)

Bachelor of Music

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $65
  • Official high school transcript (this should either be sent directly from the school or arrive in a sealed envelope from the high school within the student’s application)
  • Supplemental Application form (this form can be obtained from the Music Department at Dalhousie University, both online and in hard-copy at music.dal.ca; once completed it should be returned directly to the Music Department)

Bachelor of Journalism (Honours)

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $65
  • Official high school transcript (this should either be sent directly from the school or arrive in a sealed envelope from the high school within the student’s application)
  • Autobiographical sketch: a 1000-word essay about yourself. We're not looking for a list of names, dates and places. We want to know something about your academic strengths and weaknesses, your general interests, any jouralism-related work you may have done, and anything else that would contribute to a well-rounded story about yourself

Transfer students from another post-secondary institution:

All programs:

  • Same requirements as above
  • Official university or college transcripts
  • Detailed course descriptions for courses taken at other post-secondary institutions
  • If you have not attended post-secondary school for at least one academic year, you must also submit a letter outlining your activities since leaving your studies

Home-schooled students

All programs:

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $65
  • A letter of intent
  • A writing sample
  • Some information from the educator about the curriculum or program followed
  • Lists of textbooks used and books read
  • Any transcripts that might be available
  • Results of any standardized tests, such as the SAT or ACT (a total score of 1650 on the new SAT)
  • For any program requiring pre-calculus math: successful completion of the Math Diagnostic Test

Mature Students and Non-Degree Students

  • Please contact the Registrar’s Office for details on what to include in an application

Visiting Students (on a letter of permission from another university or college)

  • Application form
  • Application fee of $65
  • Approved letter of permission from home institution

Bachelor of Journalism (one-year)

  • A completed application form
  • Application fee of $70
  • An official transcript from all previous post-secondary institutions
  • A 1,000-word autobiographical sketch
  • A portfolio (recommended but optional)
  • Up to three letters of reference (Optional)
  • Resume (Optional)

Master of Journalism

Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction
