Chancellor

The Honourable Michael A. Meighen, QC is the Chancellor of the University of King’s College. He has had a long-standing interest in the University but became very active as a parent. His son, Ted, graduated from King’s in 2004.

Appointed to the Senate in 1990, he serves on various Senate Standing Committees including National Security and Defence and Banking, Trade and Commerce. In his private career, he practiced litigation and commercial law in Montreal and Toronto. He is Counsel to the law firm Ogilvy Renault, and was Legal Counsel to the Deschênes Commission on War Criminals. He is Chairman of Cundill Advisory Investment Committee (Vancouver), Non-Industry Director of Paribas Participations Limited (Toronto), and sits on the Boards of J.C. Clark Ltd. (Toronto) and Sentry Select Capital Corp. (Toronto).

In addition to being the Chancellor at King’s, Senator Meighen is very involved in a variety of community organizations including the Salvation Army (Immediate past Chair, Metro-Toronto Advisory Council), Stratford Festival of Canada (Past Chair), Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (Director and member of Executive Committee) and Atlantic Salmon Federation - Canada (Chair), to name a few.

Senator Meighen is a graduate of McGill University and Université Laval. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Civil Law in 2001 from Mount Allison University and in 2003 from the University of New Brunswick. He lives in Toronto with his wife, Kelly, and their three sons.
