Entrance scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance and reward for academic achievement and are, as such, merit-based. Other awards are available that are based on financial need (entrance bursaries), or a combination of financial need and merit (internal entrance awards).
Applicants for the one-year Bachelor of Journalism program are not eligible to apply for general entrance scholarships. They can apply, instead, for specific scholarships, which are listed in internal entrance awards.
Entrance scholarships, which are not renewable, are offered in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 for out-of-province applicants. Students residing within Nova Scotia are eligible for top entrance scholarships of $9,000. Each year, the College considers all full-time King's students for in-course scholarships based on their Grade Point Average (GPA), an approach somewhat different from other universities, where top entrance scholarships are renewed by earning a high GPA. At King's, we offer in-course scholarships in order to reward both students who maintain excellent standing, and those who improve their academic performance throughout each year of university.
To be considered, students must submit an essay they have written for a senior high school class. The essay must be signed by a high school official verifying that it is the student's original work. This essay is critical in determining whether a student will receive an entrance scholarship offer, so please select it with great care. Visit our entrance scholarships FAQs page for more details on this essay, and all aspects of the application process.
Eligibility for entrance scholarships is calculated using the admissions average on a student's application to King's. Essays must be mailed to the Registrar's Office postmarked no later than March 1.
