It is with great regret that we announce that Mr. Roy Willwerth passed away the night of July 28, after a long and difficult illness. Roy was the architect of the Library and the New Academic Building and has continued, until very recently, to advise us on all aspects of the King's buildings and properties. He was a close friend of the College who understood our work and who was able creatively to help us make material the vision that was within.
He was a kind and patient man, with a generous sense of humour. Roy was a principal of the Halifax firm of Duffus Romans Kundzins Rounsefell. He was a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and served as President of the Institute in 1992-1993. He received the first City of Halifax Design Award for the King's Library and we made him an Honorary Fellow of the College in 1992. He is survived by his wife Janet, and his three children Nicholas, Jane and Anna. Roy will be greatly missed by all, and certainly by all of us at King's.
The College flags have been lowered in his honour.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 3, between 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. There will be a celebration of his life on Tuesday, August 4, at 4:00 p.m. at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, 5120 Salter St., Halifax.
