With the season for the H1N1 influenza virus upon us, the President's Office would like to update all students of the University of King's College about the school's plans for combating the flu and plans for vaccination clinics:
This is Dalhousie University's comprehensive, up-to-date Flu Prevention and Care website. Information about prevention, symptoms of H1N1, university policies and the answers to a lot of frequently asked questions can all be found here. Please visit it, even if you're not ill!
Stay home until you feel better, get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. A "Decision Chart" for helping you determine whether or not your symptoms are flu-like can be found at flu.dal.ca. Click the "H1N1 Treatment" button on the left, and scroll down. You can also email TheNurse@dal.ca with health-related questions.
If you are in residence, inform your Don as soon as you start to feel ill. If you are in a King's programme (FYP, CSP, EMSP, HOST, Journalism), email your departmental secretary who will pass on word to your King's professors. You must also email the instructors of any courses you are taking at Dalhousie as soon as you fall ill. You will not need a doctor's note if you miss class, but you must inform your instructors immediately.
If you're worried about your symptoms, or if your symptoms worsen, go see a doctor. Err on the side of caution. King's students have full access to Dalhousie Health Services (6230 Coburg Rd., located inside Howe Hall).
On-Campus Vaccination Clinics: Dalhousie University is planning to host vaccination clinics in various locations throughout their campuses. Details have yet to be confirmed. King's students will have full access to these services, and will be notified once they are available. Vaccination is free; just bring your student ID card.
Off-Campus Vaccination Clinics: You can also make an appointment with your family doctor, or visit one of the vaccine clinics being offered throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality by the Capital Health Authority to receive the vaccine. Visit www.cdha.nshealth.ca to find the dates and locations of these clinics.
