King's Support for Haiti

January 20, 2010

As the terrible situation in Haiti persists, a few small initiatives for support are being taken here at King's. The Chapel is taking in funds through its usual donations and putting them to aid for Haiti. This Thursday night the Wardroom will be having an open mic event sponsored by the Dalhousie/King's Red Cross Society and the King's Concert Collective with proceeds going to aid for Haiti. As well, The St. Andrew's Mission Society (SAMS) has collection jars all over campus for loose coin.

Many people are giving generously to organizations, and the impact is doubled by federal government matching funds. Oxfam, already on the ground there, has received huge support. If you are interested in giving, it is easily done online. Organizations include: The Humanitarian Coalition, a group comprised of Oxfam, Care, and Save the Children; the Canadian Red Cross; Unicef Canada; the United Nations World Food Programme; and Medicins Sans Frontieres Canada.
