The University of King’s College’s Contemporary Studies Program invites applications for a part-time instructor who would be responsible for teaching the following course in the winter term (Jan.-Apr. 2026):
CTMP 4002.03 winter term—The Deconstruction of the Tradition: Precarities
In this course, we look at deconstruction as a philosophical movement that challenges totalizing models of thinking in favour of forms of discourse that can accommodate pluralism and alterity. While the main practitioners of deconstruction sought to interrogate traditional concepts of identity, selfhood, representation, truth, essence and origin, their own writings are not free of epistemic—and even ontological— violence. We re-examine these texts through the lens of anti-colonial, feminist and race theory and inquire into the continuing promise of deconstruction in the contemporary world.
For 2025-2026, the class is scheduled in the winter term on Mondays from 10:35 a.m.–12:25 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:35–11:25 a.m.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 3 hours of classes per week, evaluating assignments, attending staff meetings and holding office hours. If eligible, the candidate may be required to supervise a teaching assistant(s). This position reports to the Director of the Program.
Applicants should possess, as a minimum requirement, a Master’s degree in interdisciplinary humanities or a relevant discipline or field of research, although a Ph.D. is preferred. Expertise in Continental Philosophy will be an asset. Prior experience teaching at the university level is required.
Pay Rate: Remuneration is based upon qualifications and experience.
To apply: Applicants must submit a cover letter stating their qualifications for, and interest in, teaching the class and a curriculum vitae by noon on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025 to:
